Library Book Haul!!

I know, I know! I shouldn't have gotten more books when I still have a ton in my TBR pile. But the way I look at it is that I am not paying for these books so if I don't end up reading them it's no big deal ;) So here's what I got!

"Living with hope is like rubbing up against a cheese grater

It keeps taking slices off you until there's

so little left you just

crumble."

Quick witted, prank pulling graffiti artist Maxwell Connors is more observant then the average New Middletown teenager. And he doesn't like what he sees. New Middletown's children are becoming frighteningly obedient, and their parents and teachers could not be happier. As Max and his friend Dallas watch their classmates transform into model citizens, Max wonders if their only hope of freedom lies in the unknown world beyond New Middletown's walls where creativity might be a gift instead of a liability.

"Sometimes in the dream it's a faceless boy who chases her through the woods

dogging her heels like a loping predator.

She's running down the narrow trail that leads toward the creek,

and there he'll be, right on her tail

his sinewy arm reaching for her."

Caleb Devlin is a legand on Mockingbird Lane, the boy who terrorized an entire town before he got sent away. They say he hurt other kids, tortured animals, set fires and did things grown ups only speak of only in whispers. But that was all before Penny and her little brother moved here.

Now Caleb's back. Older and more dangerous then ever, and terrible things have started happening again. The whole town knows he's responsible, but the police can't do anything without proof. So penny and her friends have no choice but to try to stop him themselves.

Except now he's after them.

A sleepy summer is filled with dread in this tense and absorbing thriller by acclaimed Newberry Honor author Lennifer L. Holm

Shine by Lauren Myracle

"A boy beaten, bound and left for dead, words of hate scrawled across his chest...
A girl shrinking from life, enslaved by a shameful secret...
A tight knit southern community riddled by poverty, clannishness, drugs, and intolerance...

When Patrick is found near death, strung to the pump of a local gas station, sixteen - year - old Cat emerges from her self imposed exile to avenge the horrors inflicted on her former best friend. The local sheriff is ready to pin the crime on gay bashing out-of-towners, but Cat's  suspicions lie elsewhere. Despite ominous warnings to leave it be, Cat finds the will,  - fueled by the fury of an old injustice - to expose the homegrown hatred that gave rise to Patrick's attack.
Best selling author Myracle has crafted a hypnotic mystery steeped in a sense of place, that is also a searing coming of age story: an exploration of loss, guilt and fear fused inseparably with a tale of courage, resiliency, and love."

5/5
This novel was an instant hit with me! I am the type of reader who enjoys raw, real topics, and that is exactly what this book provided! There was no slow beginning, Myracle jumped right in and made me feel as if I already knew the characters. The development of the novel was fast paced and appropriate.

The main character Cat, while portrayed as a standoffish introvert, shows the qualities that prove how strong and passionate she really is about life.

Topics like the ones discussed in this novel are ones that are taboo for most authors. However, Lauren Myracle finds the perfect balance of raw truth and friendships to make this story one you will never forget!!
